President's Message

    Esteemed Colleagues and Friends,

It is with great pride and honor that I serve as your President of the Metro New York Chapter of ICRI (International Concrete Repair Institute). As I commence my 2-year term, I can’t help to reflect on how I got here. It was a little over 5 years ago that my fellow Board members Alex Somohano and Herminio JR Estrella convinced me to join ICRI and to get involved in a committee. They were also guilty of orchestrating my election to Vice President when I missed a meeting due to a death in the family. Since then, I have learned not to miss too many meetings. Needless to say, I owe it all to them. Soon after joining I quickly became intrigued with the association and the benefits of membership but what truly fascinated me was the like-minded individuals I met, most of which today I consider my friends.

I look forward to working shoulder to shoulder with a strong team of Board of Directors and Committee members to enhance membership satisfaction by engaging members and reacting to their specific needs. We look to ramp up our outreach efforts to grow membership with a concentration on expanding our student and millennial enrollment. We are committed to fulfilling our mission to provide education, certification, networking and leadership to improve the quality of repair, restoration, and protection/preservation of concrete and other material systems.

Our forward execution will be to avoid unnecessary changes and solely focus on the essential elements that enable our membership and chapter to thrive. In doing so we have narrowed our 2020 goals to the 3 below:

    • Grow the Chapter membership and the percentage of members active in our Committees and other Chapter activities by a minimum of 5%.
    • Develop next generation of leadership by targeting students and young professionals. We will be awarding formal scholarships, making a presentation at a local university and diversifying our meeting content and social events to engage these future leaders.
    • Conduct an annual local repair awards program and have the chapter present one or more personal awards.

I am excited and confident that our simple strategies for success will deliver superior results. I hope you will consider becoming a member if not already and strongly encourage you to get involved in a committee. Join me in bringing awareness to our chapter, association and industry.

I am deeply grateful to my predecessors for their leadership and am inspired by their outstanding accomplishments. Special thanks to the Board of Directors and Committee Members who selflessly and diligently work behind the scenes to keep our chapter running smoothly. We are fortunate to have such a great team. Lastly, I would like to thank all our members who support our chapter by giving up their personal time to participate in our meetings and attend social events.

Please reach out to me with any questions, concerns or suggestions on how we can make ICRI-MNY better.

    Yours sincerely,

    Dennis Orozco
