A Message from the Chapter
As we wrap up another busy construction season, the ICRI Metro NY Chapter continues its commitment to advancing the repair, restoration, and protection of concrete and masonry structures throughout the region.
This fall season has been marked by strong member engagement, valuable technical discussions, and continued collaboration among engineers, architects, contractors, manufacturers, owners, and industry partners. Thank you to everyone who attended our recent events, volunteered their time, and supported the chapter’s mission.
The strength of our chapter comes from the willingness of our members to share knowledge and build professional relationships. We encourage you to stay involved, attend upcoming programs, and invite colleagues who would benefit from becoming part of our growing community.
EVENT RECAPS: 2026
Demo Day Recap: Architectural Terra Cotta Repair
On October 1, 2026, the ICRI Metro NY Chapter hosted its annual Demo Day at Skyline Restoration in Long Island City, dedicated to architectural terra cotta repair and restoration. The full-day event provided practicing architects, engineers, design professionals, and building consultants with hands-on learning opportunities and technical knowledge for managing complex historic facade projects.
Attendees engaged in physical material demonstrations covering terra cotta anchors, flashing systems, and repair patches/glazes hosted by leading industry manufacturers. The event featured a Technical Panel Q&A with terra cotta specialists and representatives from the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC). Full-day participants earned 4.0 AIA-accredited CEUs while networking over catered lunch and an evening cocktail hour.
Annual ICRI Metro NY Fall Golf Outing
Our 2026 Golf Invitational took place on Thursday, September 17, at Cedar Hill Country Club in Livingston, NJ. Industry professionals across the NYC metro area gathered for a premier day of networking, golf, and camaraderie.
The event featured brunch, an 11:00 AM shotgun start, and an evening cocktail reception and dinner buffet. A heartfelt thank you to all our players, attendees, and tournament sponsors whose participation and generous support fund our chapter’s educational initiatives and technical programs throughout the year.
Member Spotlight: Metro NY Chapter at the 2026 ICRI Fall National Convention
The ICRI Fall National Convention took place October 18th – 21st in sunny Phoenix, Arizona! Members of our Metro NY Chapter traveled out to represent our local chapter, participate in technical committee sessions, and connect with industry leaders from across the country.
Our very own Max McCarthy, ICRI National Awards Committee Chair, took the stage to present the 34th Annual ICRI Project Awards Ceremony, recognizing outstanding achievements in concrete repair and restoration projects nationwide. In addition to technical presentations and committee meetings, chapter members and our delegate made time to connect during evening receptions—and even squeezed in a few rounds of golf at the resort course against the desert backdrop!
Why I Joined ICRI: Member Perspectives
Our members are the foundation of the Metro NY Chapter. From design professionals navigating NYC building codes to specialty contractors executing complex repairs in the field, joining ICRI offers unique access to technical resources, peer mentorship, and professional growth. Here, two active chapter members share how their involvement has shaped their careers and expanded their professional networks in the NYC restoration industry.
“I’ve been working in the architecture and construction industry for over 13 years, with the last 5 focused on façade restoration at Kamen Tall Architects, P.C., and 8 years prior in new construction. That mix has given me a solid understanding of both how buildings come together and what it takes to repair and maintain them, especially in a place like New York City, where the building stock is as complex as it gets.
As a senior project manager and licensed architect, I’m always looking to improve my approach in the field. I take a lot of pride in working on the buildings that make up this city, so learning new and more effective ways to repair and preserve that architectural fabric is something that really interests me. Joining ICRI gives me access to new information, evolving repair strategies, and a deeper understanding of materials like concrete that play such a big role in our work.
The people side of ICRI is just as important to me. It connects me with a network of experienced engineers, contractors, architects, and consultants who are all dealing with the same types of challenges. Having that community to collaborate with, share ideas, and call on for advice is incredibly valuable—and honestly something you don’t always get day-to-day.
I’m looking forward to being part of that network, continuing to learn, and contributing my own experience in façade restoration.”

— Gary D’Onofrio, RA | Senior Project Manager, Kamen Tall Architects, P.C.
“With over 12 years of experience in Historic Preservation, my work has focused on the conservation and architectural restoration of buildings throughout New York City. This practice has deepened my respect for traditional construction methods and the complex materials that form our built heritage. Joining the ICRI Metro Chapter aligns perfectly with my ongoing passion for learning—particularly in expanding my understanding of building materials like concrete, which plays a critical role in both historic and modern structures. ICRI’s technical resources and emphasis on material performance provide invaluable insights that support my professional growth and elevate the quality of my preservation work.
Equally important to me is the opportunity to connect and collaborate with professionals who share a commitment to excellence in construction and restoration. The ICRI Metro Chapter fosters a dynamic, multidisciplinary community of engineers, contractors, architects, and materials specialists—creating a space where knowledge is shared, best practices are advanced, and meaningful professional relationships are built.
Being part of this network not only broadens my perspective but also allows me to contribute my expertise in historic preservation, bridging the gap between traditional methods and modern innovations in concrete repair and restoration.”

Technical Presentation & Panel Discussion:
Navigating Access Agreements to Keep Your Projects Moving
Wednesday, November 4th | Club 101
Join ICRI Metro NY and NYCSRA on Wednesday, November 4, 2026 (5:00 PM – 8:00 PM) at Club 101 for an essential panel discussion on neighboring property access in high-density urban environments.
Operating on tight NYC job sites almost always requires accessing an adjoining property for construction, structural repairs, or FISP facade inspections. Following Governor Hochul’s landmark overhaul of RPAPL § 881—the most significant legislative amendment since 1968—the legal and practical rules for accessing neighboring properties have fundamentally changed.
Moderated by Sara Holcomb, PE, QEWI (Walker Consultants), our panel brings together perspectives from across the industry: Benjamin Fox Tracy (Braverman/Greenspun), Nathaniel B. Smith, PE (Simpson Gumpertz & Heger), Michael Wolfe (Wolfe Realty Services), James Rowland (Zetlin & De Chiara, LLP), and Sarah Migliore (Pullman, NYC). Together, they will unpack the amendment’s new definition of “refusal,” expanded permissible purposes, revised compensation and insurance conditions, and real-world strategies for negotiating access without disrupting project schedules.
